Plaintiff Time Incorporated (Time Inc.) purchased the exclusive rights to Abraham Zapruder’s home movie film capturing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Time Inc. secured statutory copyright protection for the film and for issues of Life magazine in which still frames were published. Defendant Thompson authored a book, “Six Seconds in Dallas,” which presented a critical analysis of the Warren Commission Report’s findings.
